"Morgal" EP by Morgal

Black Metal from Finland.

Release Date 30 November 2018.

WEREWOLF RECORDS is proud to present MORGAL's highly anticipated new mini-album, Morgal, on CD and 12" vinyl format. Hailing from the forever-fertile Finnish black metal underground, MORGAL are one of that scene's best-kept secrets. With two of its members not even yet into their 20s, these ravenous young men have crafting absolutely electric, beWITCHing metal since their formation in 2014. To date, their releases have been incredibly limited or just plain impossible to attain - their debut album, 2016's Käärmesielu, was released in an edition of only 20 copies - but with Morgal, their wolfish cry shall now be heard far and wide. Fence-sitters and the false, your days are numbered.

Comprising a mere 15 minutes, the four songs making up Morgal are some of the most immediately exciting heavy metal of recent times, but draped in the velvety wings of ancient blackness. Each of these anthems literally explodes from the speakers with a rabid intensity and cocksure exuberance that are simply impossible to resist, each a hideous, hungry torrent of wild soloing, near-chaotically careening rhythm, and frothing-mad vox. They all exude the ageless wisdom of true black METAL - so ageless, in fact, that you'd be forgiven for mistaking Morgal as the work of very old men - but given frantic flight through youthful elan that's enviously advanced for their age.Morgal is a chain-breaking, sword-drawing, spell-invoking experience like no other...and then, as explosively as it began, it's over.

Band Members:
Lord Warmoon - Bass,Vocals
SS Exiler - Drums
Crusher - Guitar

Black Metal from Bamberg, Germany.

CD Release Date December 2018 through A Pile Of Graves Records.

Band Info:
Non Est Deus. There is no god. And if there was a god, he has forsaken us.

A rotten teeth in the mouth of society.
Religion. The hostage of the world.
Spring 2018. To much hate to stay silent. The album „The Last Supper“ was released. To fill the deaf ears of a robotic society with anger and truth. One project. One goal. The end of all religion.

Album Info:
"The Last Supper“ is a concept album. A human being is called by a voice to climb up a mountain to present its own body as a sacrifice to the gods. But this time in a different way.

"Visits From The Nighthag Part 1" by The Projectionist

Black Metal from Canada.

Release Date 31-October-2018.

The Projectionist (formerly Lord Matzigkeitus) is a project of pure Hellthundering black metal. Invoking spellcasting through isolation, and darkness.

Ever since laying the foundation of THE PROJECTIONIST in 2015, Lörd Matzigkeitus (Diabolus Amator, The Black Sorcery, Thy Sepulchral Moon, ex-Idolatry) and his tenebrous army have pushed the boundaries of black metal cult. Each release morphing to a new direction from its previous sonic hellscape under the cloak of his arcane, twisting and evolving voice.

“Visits from the NightHag Part 1” is the glorious theatrical third full length of the band, released via Appalachian Noise Records on vinyl LP format (in 3 different color variations, limited to 300 copies).

Lörd Matzigkeitus informs:

“Visits from the NightHag Part 1 is the first installment of the Projectionist’s two-part magnum opus. A jarring, unsettling concept album that unravels the story of a projectionist, accosted by night terrors that induce sleep paralysis so powerful his limbs are to be amputated. The vicious, cryptic NightHag covets what magics she knows him to possess. She will summon all the forces of hell to steal them from him and slaughter all he holds dear...”

Explore a masterpiece of subversive, haunting orchestrations, laid to waste by a building fury of raw black metal from the coldest reaches of the North. Told in the manner of a Shakespearean play with guest vocals from Caeser Tiberius (Ides of Winter), the arcane Aven Haunts and a funeral choir.

Black metal’s borders are being smashed down. Come venture beyond the walls of what was....

"Herbstwind" by Ka-tet

Black Metal/Dark Metal, Germany.

Released 28 October 2018

Herbstwind is the only debut album of this band from Thuringia, independently published in bandcamp this year, originally released in June 2013. Ka-tet, the name of the band and some of their lyrical content pays homage to Stephen King literature. The term Ka-tet is borrowed from the eight-volume cycle The Dark Tower, meaning a community of beings pursuing the same goal. Their music is dark and atmospheric and some how melancholic.

Their sound is characterized by a melancholy mood with acoustic guitar parts gently increasing and building into intense melodic profundity up to furious outbursts of the 8-string guitar. The complex drums and deep bass emphasise this dark atmosphere. The vocals vary from deep growls to high screaming and whispering, which gives the voice a great dynamic. Their expressive texts pick up topics that deal primarily with the depths of human existence.

Charles: Guitars
Thomas: Vocals, Bass

"Unbound" by Sargeist

Black Metal/Melodic Black Metal from Finland.

Released Date October 2018.

"...‘Unbound’ is both important and imposing as a black metal album in 2018 for its undeniable melodic scent and violently classic expression. It is poignant reminder of the effective thrust and utter nihilistic furor that black metal holds without complication or feigned modernism. Beyond what Sargeist represent in black metal’s torrid landscape of indifference and parody ‘Unbound’ is a vital and energetic guitar album that channels and distills the undying will of man to destroy everything vital for his existence and for that reason I have to highly recommend it. The experience and composition are both undeniably brilliant..." (by Grizzly Butts Review)

"Exitium" by Primaire

Raw Black Metal from Germany.

Primaire is a new formation of veterans from Bavaria (featuring members of Anencephaly, HateCult of the Cunt, Lower Than Zero, Ysbryd and Blutwald) who just unleashed this year their debut album "Exitium" on  2nd-October-2018. What first grabbed my attention was the great art-cover of the album created by Astaroth Cerebre and it didn't disappoint when I hit the play. Primaire plays traditional raw black metal, fierce and powerful with dynamic catchy riffs but also with excellent dark atmospheres and melodies the most elitists will approve off. Their themes are based on anti-religion, death and hate. The only negative is their tracks are perhaps a bit short but on the bright side it won't bore you and is what makes you crave for more!

"The Luciferian Crown" by ARCHGOAT

Black Death Metal, Finland.

Released 14 September 2018.

With grim reliability, ARCHGOAT discharge yet more pustulant diabolic foulness into a world increasing moulded in their image.

‘The Luciferian Crown’ is a frighteningly-focused vision of hellish corruption, unsentimental, morally abhorrent and steeped in a violent horror all too real.

Contemporaneous with the uncanny classics of Finnish death and black metal – ARCHGOAT share the same penchant for mind-altering atmospherics, blurring the mystical song-craft of first wave black metal with guttural punk, primitive thrash, the sonorous barbarism of vintage death metal and grindcore that reeks of putrefaction.

Since forming in 1989 ARCHGOAT have revolved around an inner circle all their own, refining their idiosyncratic primitivism - ‘The Luciferian Crown’ is a mirror crushed against nature, a portal through egocentric decadence into the pile of tortured corpses in your psyche.

"Undead Poetry" by Thysantmünz

Black Metal from Russia.

Released 25-August-2018.

This is the first time I listened to Thysantmünz, from Russia who has no information as to who the band members are, but aside that, this debut title caught my eye. "Undead Poetry" is a nostalgic offering of raw black metal verging into atmospheric even at times due its melancholy in some of their tracks and its cathartic feel. Overall it's a good gritty raw black metal debut and aside its melancholy you'll encounter fists-full of ravaging fast paced to sate your thirst for aggression with anthems of glory, honour, ancestry and tradition.

"Sombr Moebrd" Demo by VOËMMR

Raw Black Metal, Portugal.

Release Date August 2018

Voëmmr belongs to the clandestine Aldebaran Circle, Portuguese black metal underground group that conceals their name, alongside Ordem Satânica, Trono Além Morte and Occelensbrigg.

Sombr Moebrd was released on cassette tape by Harvest of Death, a sub-label of Signal Rex, and went on sale on the release date, August 15th.

Comprising three new, lengthy tracks, this demo is the band's first new recordings since their bolt-from-the-blue debut album, Nox Maledictvs, last year, which has justifiably caused quite a stir in the black metal underground ever since.

Truly, that same strangely shimmering yet hellishly hysteric atmosphere which provocatively marked out Nox Maledictvs is here in full on this new demo - in fact, it goes even more beyond The Beyond. Stopping clocks and heartbeats alike, VOËMMR's paradoxically wounded/violent iteration of black metal takes the rawness for which its Aldebaran Circle is renown and rips its inside out, exposing the ghostly clean tones that lurk within, only to be corrupted by a very-nearly-insane sort of execution. It's uncomfortable listening, but endlessly compelling.

With more new works to be revealed in time, VOËMMR's new demo should satisfy the sickly hunger that lurks in the most depraved.

"Nostalgia" EP by Coldworld

Black Metal from Germany.

Released 23-July-2018.

Coldworld, is a one-man band created in 2005 by Georg Börner (all instruments, vocals and lyrics). This year it has returned with a couple of EP's ("Interludium" and "Nostalgia" both in July) and a split with Farsot titled "Toteninsel" in September.

"Nostalgia" caught my eye as it's a good tribute to 90s black metal, not a repertoire of old covers but original music in raw 90s style, with great cold atmospheres and an old school sound. Recommended!

"Visions Of Doom" EP by Finis

Black/Death Metal from Germany.

Released on 9-July-2018.

First time I've listened to Finis, a mysterious trio from Germany,  and to their debut EP "Visions of Doom" relesed by Iron Bonehead Productions on CD and 12" vinyl format. The CD version shall include the band's sold-out debut demo, At One With Nothing, as bonus tracks.

It is best described by the label as a ghostly and gangrenous creation with their compositions patiently building, swirling about the listener in an entrancing haze, and then layers fall off while others are built back upon, creating further trance - and even more tension. It's subtly bewitching, and more so uniquely done when placed within the wider context of the modern black/death underground.

"III" by Teuras

Black Metal, Finland.

Release Date July 2018

This three member band has been active since 2013 with their third album "III" being released this summer. Overall is a good black metal album with some tracks having intense fast blasts beats I enjoyed such "Diabolus Ab Inferi" and "Return to Winterborgir" being my favourite, other tracks are perhaps more generic and reminiscent of Immortal and Abbath but still enjoyable and confident many of you will appreciate this album.

Band Members:
Suu - Vocals & Guitar,
Sorkka - Bass
Tauti - Drums

Digital (Teuras, Bandcamp)

Physical copies direct from the band also.

"Order of Vengeance" by Runespell

Black Metal from Australia.

Released 6-July-2018.

Hailing from the shit-hot true Australian black metal scene, Runespell is the work of one Nightwolf, considered by those in the know to be arguably the busiest man in OZBM, maintaining as he does the equally prolific Eternum and Blood Stronghold. While bearing aesthetic similarities to those two bands - this is the purest, most mystical black metal after all - Runespell is a majestic rumination on the mysteries of war and bloodshed, vengeance and valor, memory and destiny.

Order of Vengeance is the second album that followed shortly after the first album "Unhallowed Blood Oath", also released by Iron Bonehead last year.

"... Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  hateful  black   metal  screams.

A  great  amount  of  90's  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  melodies  also  being  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  at  times,  spoken  word  parts  and  melodic  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.

As quoted by the band, "Through music and lyrics VANHELGA, which translated from Swedish means “Profane”, “explores the darker side of humanity. The one that few will admit exists, but which nevertheless is a huge part of every individual’s existence.” "

"Endémique" EP by Emprise

Black Metal from Québec, Canada.

Released April 2018.

Emprise, a new low-profile underground entity that emerged this year, released in April their first debut EP titled "Endémique". A duo from Quebec that shares the guitarist, bassist and lyric writer artist of Mort aux Gueux and Cardinal covering the vocals and drums. This is a new and promising band that has a visceral and catchy raw sound with a slight punk influence and far from the generic and traditional  black metal. Their lyrics are deeply rooted with the Québécois culture and covers poems by Émile Nelligan.

"Endémique" is available both digitally and on cassette format through Corde Raide Productions.

Excellent Black Metal from Quebec!

"Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz" by UNGFELL

Black Metal from Switzerland.

Released 23-March-2018.

Unholy medieval walpurgis black metal originating from Switzerland with themes based on
Swiss folklore, historical events, hate and anger.

Ungfell moved from strength to strength and released its sophomore full-length "Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz" in the Spring of 2018 through Eisenwald Tonschmiede. Having replaced Infermità with Vâlant on drums, the release showed a particular focus on songwriting and aggression in performance, without sacrificing the intricacies that made Ungfell easily distinguishable from other acts. "Mythen, Mären, Pestilenz" revealed an unbridled fury and directness that was further enhanced by a more direct and massive approach to production.

"...Ungfell boast a singularly weird approach to black metal, balancing an icy, blasting attack, moody breathers, and swinging, folksy instrumentation. The closest comparison is Peste Noire for the blackened parts which occupy the largest slice of this aural gateau..."

"Wolfcult Domination" EP by GOAT DISCIPLE

Black/Death Metal from Utah, US.

Released on 15-June-2018.

"...Hailing from Salt Lake City, Utah, GOAT DISCIPLE are a quintet who unapologetically craft WAR METAL. In the strictest sense, their particular style of spurn 'n' churn melds the most barbaric recesses of black metal to the molten muscle of death metal..." (Blood Harvest Records)

"...Goat Disciple are not playing to trends, they just cough up visceral, grating black-death cruelty and ferocity. The quartet of tracks melt into one another as blackened, billowing meat-grinders with only occasional mid-tempo breathers in order to inhale more toxic fumes of terror..."

“Gaqtaqaiaq” EP by Ifernach

Raw Black Metal from Québec, Canada.

Released March 2018.

When it comes to the Québécois Black Metal scene, Ifernach is a strong new solo project that shouldn’t go amiss. I first heard and listened Ifernach thanks to Corde Raide Productions when in 2016 it released a batch of 50 tapes of  the first EP Laments of Ériu and I was sold at first hearing.

The brain and soul behind Ifernach, is Finian Patraic who writes all lyrics in French covering subjects and tales of native ancestry, forgotten ancient souls, cults and old rituals from the Gaspé Peninsula in Canada (a province of Quebec). And hence, he describes his music as Gaspesian black metal.

Soundwise, expect a rough and raw production with fierce fast riffing and chaotic black metal with some thrash and punk influence, interwoven with traditional mid paced and additional atmospheric elements of ambient and acoustic to channel your mind into lands of ancient Gaspesian native past.

Gaqtaqaiaq is his new (3rd) EP released this spring via Nekrart on CD format, containing a beautiful booklet with lyrics and images in full colour and also in tape format via Les Productions Heretiques.

I believe there are still a few tapes available for Vestige Gaspesien, the Ifernach/Victime Quelconque Split by the way via Corde Raide Productions.

"Abeloth" EP by Snøgg

Black Metal from Slovenia.

Released December 2017.

We've added to our playlist Snøgg, a two member act from Slovenia that plays a very peculiar style of experimental black metal, with a very distinctive dark and powerful sound that stands out from the generic traditional bands. They inject lots of different elements with and orthodox feel and improvised dynamic composition style that captivates the listener with their dissonant and harrowing sound.  Great obscure mid tempo atmospheres accompanied by violin, guitar solos and narrations. The album is based on Star Wars legend and later mixed with the dark poetry of Georg Trakl.

The Creation and recording of Abeloth is comprised by a series of performances at Brno and in Ljubljana in October 2016, and in Maribor in November of the same year. Originally performed without drums as Mørk could not make it but it was the first performance that included guests on stage.

Aninø Üfo Letherbee, a renowned classical orchestral and solo violinist joined Ulv (guitars, vocals, keyboards), Køzhl (bass) and Neo-Cymex formerly known as Ampulex Dementor (noisescapes, special fx) for the experiment. On the second and third performances, Mørke returned and Azbuka (noise, field recordings) joined the team. As expected, each edition of Abeloth sounded different and after November, the band never played the whole song again, rather played some kind of derivatives of the song, little pieces or a song with no name, unofficially called Abeloth 2. Vrag (vocals) also joined in on many of those implementations.

In May 2017, the team went to the studio and recorded the tracks for the EP. It was done in the same way as the concerts, a total improvisation. The latest addition to the roster was Zeench, who recorded guitar solos for The Servant – The Mother, and after months of editing and mixing, the Abeloth EP was born and available for purchase through Bandcamp.

Ulv - guitars, Keyboards, Vocals, Rituals
Mørke - Drumms, Spells

Additional Musicians:
Aninø Üfo Letherbee - Violin
Køzhl - Bass
Vrag - Vocals
Azbuka - Noise, field Recordings
Neo-Cymex formerly known as Ampulex Dementor - Narration
Zeench - Guitar Solo

"Skuggorna Kallar" by Skogen

Atmospheric Pagan Black Metal from Sweden.

Released 25 May 2018.

Skogen is a four member band that pays homage to the beautiful and mysterious nature that surrounds them, Sweden. Their fifth album "Skuggorna Kallar" came out in the spring through Nordvis Produktion on CD and 12" Vinyl.

"...Possessed by the mysteries of nature and dedicated to paying homage to its majesty, both in light and darkness, Skogen will offer your avid ears a polarity of sounds felt in their music as subtly beautiful melodies and clean vocals are woven into the more pervasive darker tones that saturate Skuggorna Kallar, like the blanket of night, heavy with dew. Joakim and Mathias, accompanied by Jonathan Jansson on the guitar and L. Larsson on drums, as well as an array of fantastic guest musicians, deliver their most complete and darkest work to date in their new album, a must-have for fans of the cold and austere sounds of the North..."

"Occulta religiO" by Abhor (Italy)

Black Metal from Italy.

Released May 2018.

Abhor are a veritable institution of Italian occult and esoteric black metal with an unmistakable ritual feel.

Formed in 1995 by Domine Saevum Graven and Ulfhedhnir in the northeast of Italy, the band began with a passion for black metal music and the study of esoteric arts. Less like a band and more like a congregation, they represent a form of global art that embraces all its elements (musical, visual and literal art).

Their first release came in 1998, with the first demo tape "In Tuo Honori Prepartum". From there on, Abhor released six full length albums with a number of labels, doing honorable underground work.

Their new offering "Occulta religiO",  is available through Iron Bonehead Productions, releasing this month Abhor's highly anticipated seventh album on CD, vinyl LP and cassette format.

'Occulta religiO" conjures the usual stylistic brand of sinister melodies, heavy and very dark riffing, demonic screams, keyboard notes and recitations in clean vocals alongside concepts of occult, esotericism, alchemy, witchcraft, Satanism and dark folklore.

"Lurker of Chalice" - New Edition (2018)

Black Metal/Ambient from USA

If you are familiar with Leviathan then you will also know Lurker of Chalice, one of the many projects by visual artist and multi-instrumentalist Jef Whitehead, also known as Wrest.

This self-titled album was originally released in 2005 after the releases of two previous demos, one of our all time USBM favourites. The good news is that NWN! Productions has released early in the year a new edition, a double LP which include a bonus track featured on a previous vinyl edition.

Lurker of Chalice is a stirring Black Metal Ambient masterpiece with a strong oppressive and reverberated visceral feel. This album will genuinely transport you to entrancing lands of profound bleak despair. A very unique rare gem!

"Perversión" EP by Corpsehammer

Black/Death Metal from Sweden.

Released April 2018.

We’ve just added the Swedish black/death metal horde Corpsehammer to our playlist. They’ve unleashed the third chapter of their EP trilogy, via Morbid Skull Records (started with "Sacrilegio" in March last year and followed with "Posesión" last September).

Based in Dalarna (Sweden), and founded in 2016, Corpsehammer is a four member band from Chile and Sweden (including Gaddur from Omnizide). Their raw production and ferocious sounding force and influence is inspired by the first wave of black metal, plus elements of late ‘80s and early ‘90s Latin American/Australian extreme scenes, combined with primitive, malicious and sacrilegious black/death metal.

The lyrics of this EP seem to be abstract, with no specific story or theme and the words are not necessarily connected to each other, yet in some bizarre way the connection exists and the result is sheer madness and chaos facing the devil, perversion and death.

Morbid Skull Records is stocking a limited edition of 99 copies on blood inked tapes, in 3 different colours, black, gold and silver.

HIGHLY REOMMENDED TO THE FANS OF: Darkthrone, Sadistik Exekution, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Katharsis, Slaughter Lord, Vulcano, Sarcofago and the likes.

Midnight Horror – Vocals
Nekromonger – Guitar
Gaddur – Drums
Draug – Bass

You Shall Be There..." by Cryptic Wanderings

Black Metal from Spain.

Released June 2017.

From the depths of the Spanish Underground Black Metal scene "You Shall Be There..." is the new debut album of Spanish horde CRYPTIC WANDERINGS. A band from Zaragoza formed out of the ashes of AMNION, taking the name of this band's full length album as their band name and continuing the worship of old black metal. Drizzt of Spanish black metallers Empty is one of the main writers behind the band with member Santi of Ataraxy, as well as Nemac (Empty) on the bass and Gionata Potenti a.k.a. Omega and Thorns (Fides Inversa, Darvaza, Chaos Invocation) on the drums.
A grim and sinister fast paced album that take their own tormented style into a darkened journey that gives praise to the old ways yet with more modern overtones and great production. Highly recommended!
